Naturally when I started to run again (especially after being asked if I wanted to get involved in races) my thoughts turned towards running a marathon again. I had a look at when the Wolverhampton marathon is this year and while no date has been set yet, it will be taking place in September. So worrying that I'd keep putting off the training I started looking for other runs. Now the first option that came to mind was the London marathon, though this fills up really fast and the only way to realistically get a spot would be to run for charity and while I do plan to raise some money, some of the minimum targets were a little bit ambitious for someone without any fund raising experience.
nice coastal route |
Fortunately about this time I received an email off Barnardo's about running the Brighton Marathon. I get the odd email off them every now and again about doing some fund raising and it is a charity that has links to my family, plus the date of the event seemed ideal as I'd need to start training straight away. I did a bit of research and found that the marathon route itself was very flat (except for a hill in the first mile) and the majority of the route is along the beach so it should be nice and scenic!
Lethal Conditions |
Unfortunately since applying the weather has been, less then ideal and I haven't been for a single run since. Everyday I've considered going for a run thinking about risking it, but considering I've nearly slipped over on the way to my car several time this week I thought maybe moving with any kind of speed could only end badly. The weather does look like it is improving and I'm hoping I can go for a run tomorrow morning, but only if we get a nice hot spell!
My fund raising will begin as soon as my pack arrives in the post next week, I plan to keep detailed records of my runs and post them on here as well as my planned training, so expect lots of run related posts over the next couple of months! My target is to finish somewhere between 3 1/2 - 4 hours though I'm going to train to hit sub 3 1/2 hours but for a first marathon if I can finish it without walking then I'll consider it a success!
Hopefully the weather will improve and I can get fully started next week!
Cheers,
Rich
